James Ryker, a veteran intelligence agent now freelancer, working for the secretive Joint Intelligence agency on an op-by-op basis, finds himself embroiled in a complicated mission that will test him to his limit.
When a simple surveillance mission goes awry and the key target is kidnapped in broad daylight in a busy London square, Ryker knows he has his work cut out.
Ryker is tasked with figuring out what went wrong. But when his good friend Sam Moreno disappears without a trace, the mission becomes more personal than he could have imagined.
Torn between toeing the government line, and finding the answers he needs, Ryker realises there’s only one way to find those responsible and to punish them… His way.
James Ryker Returns in Renegade.
Having thoroughly enjoyed Rob Sinclair’s James Ryker series, I was very excited to receive an email from Rob letting me know that another Ryker book was due to be released and asking if I would like a copy for review.
Renegade is actually the first in a new series featuring special agent, James Ryker. After a surveillance mission for the Joint Intelligence Agency (JIA) goes wrong, Ryker wants to know why. When his friend, Sam Moreno, disappears and fearing a mole in the department, Ryker finds himself on his own as he travels through Europe in search of answers.
In a parallel plot line, Daisy Haan works security for the millionaire, Bastian Fischer – a man with his finger in numerous pies (as the saying goes!). His network stretches worldwide and his access to information is unparalleled. When a theft occurs on Haan’s watch, she and her team find themselves on the hunt for the perpetrator.
How are these events connected? Why are people dying? And, what has happened to Moreno?
The book is fast-paced and deftly plotted, with a few twists that will certainly keep the readers on their toes. With mounting suspense, relentless action and a fair amount of violence, I felt pretty exhausted by the end! Ryker is a great character, he may lack the suaveness and cool gadgets of James Bond (007), but he certainly gets the job done.
Renegade is entertaining, action-packed and thrilling, a real page-turner. I absolutely love the Ryker books and I’m already looking forward to his next adventure!
As a side note, whilst this book may carry on from previous Ryker adventures, it can certainly be read as a standalone novel. However I would recommend that you read the books in order because they really are fantastic and I wouldn’t want you to miss out on his earlier adventures!
A huge thanks to Rob for providing me with an advanced copy of the book for review.

His work has received widespread critical acclaim, with many reviewers and readers likening Rob’s work to authors at the very top of the genre, including Lee Child and Vince Flynn.
Originally from the North East of England, Rob has lived and worked in a number of fast paced cities, including New York, and is now settled in the West Midlands with his wife and young sons.
