Blog Tour & Book Review: Hopeful Hearts at Glendale Hall by Victoria Walters

I am delighted today to join the blog tour for Hopeful Hearts at Glendale Hall, the third book in the Glendale Hall series by Victoria Walters. The book can be read as a standalone, but in my opinion is best read chronologically as part of the series (plus that’s a great excuse to read the earlier books in the Glendale Hall series – all of which are hugely entertaining!).

Genre: Romance/Women’s Fiction
Publication Date: 2nd September 2020
Publisher: Hera Books

Heather Douglas appears to have it all. But living on a farm in the Scottish Highlands with her partner, Rory Fraser, all while bringing up their adorable toddler, Harry, isn’t easy. As a former librarian, Heather is worried that she’ll never fully fit into life on Fraser Farm. And after the death of her beloved mum five years ago, Heather feels lost, as well as guilty for holding back accepting Rory’s marriage proposal because she can’t imagine her wedding without her mother.

So when ex-boyfriend, Stewart, appears in the village of Glendale, it’s a shock to the system. The man who broke her heart years ago now has big plans for the neighbouring farm and wants Heather to be part of the development. Knowing that she’s living a very different life to the one they had planned at university leaves Heather wondering if she has made the right choices since she and Stewart broke up. Especially when things start to go very wrong on the farm…

This Christmas, Heather will need to face her fears and let go of the past or risk losing everything. She will need love, faith, and a whole lot of hope!

Return to the beautiful Highlands village of Glendale with the latest book in the bestselling Glendale series – the perfect cosy, uplifting, romantic read for fans of Heidi Swain, Milly Johnson and Holly Martin.

Hopeful Hearts at Glendale Hall is the third instalment in the charming Glendale Hall series. In book one, Coming Home to Glendale Hall, we met Beth and Drew, followed by the introduction of Emily and Brodie in Book 2, New Beginnings at Glendale Hall. This time it’s the turn of Heather and Rory.

Heather never imagined that one day she would be a farmer, yet here she is at Fraser Farm with her boyfriend Rory and their young son, Harry. Rory wants to marry her but something is holding Heather back. Her indecisiveness is further exacerbated by the sudden appearance of her ex-boyfriend, Stewart – the man who broke her heart.  If Heather doesn’t have enough on her mind already, they then discover that the farm may be at risk from developers. As the saying goes ‘it never rains but it pours’…

I must admit that I found Heather quite frustrating at first. I understand that she obviously suffers from anxiety which, as an anxious person myself, I can certainly sympathise with (albeit certainly not in Heather’s league) and I also understand having doubts about your life/relationship, however I felt that she was initially somewhat disrespectful to Rory in her dealings with Stewart. He made it plain that his intentions were not purely platonic and yet she seemed to make very little effort to dissuade him. Heather’s doubts and anxieties really highlighted Rory’s patience and underlying goodness. It was also very satisfying to witness the development of Heather’s character throughout the book.

The supporting characters are a joy. I enjoyed catching up with familiar characters from the earlier books and I found myself intrigued by Angus and his background. I would love Angus to be included in a later book or maybe a short novella to better explain his background.

As always, it was a pleasure to return to the wonderful Glendale village and its engaging residents.

If you’re looking for a heartwarming, feel good story then this may well be the book for you. It has drama, intrigue, romance, friendship, snow and animals – all the ingredients that are guaranteed to make you smile. I’m already looking forward to my next visit to Glendale.

Huge thanks to Victoria, Hera Books and Rachel from Rachel’s Random Resources for providing me with an advanced copy of the book and inviting me to take part in this blog tour.
