Review
I am very pleased to be today’s stop on the blog tour for the third novel in the Arielle Lockley series, FOUND by Elle Field. Having read the earlier two books, KEPT and LOST, along with B-SIDE(another book involving some of the same characters), I was hugely excited to read FOUND.
I first want to mention the cover. I LOVE the artwork used on the covers for all of Field’s books. There is just something hugely appealing about the colours and simple designs.
Whilst this is, for the most part, a standalone book, I would strongly recommend reading the rest of the series first. You will definitely find it worthwhile, otherwise the background to the story may get a bit confusing for you.
In short, Arielle finds herself rushing to New York to support her hospitalized fiancé, Piers. She also finds herself on the receiving end of an inheritance to be shared with the incredibly temperamental Etta, resulting in them having to work together in order to retain that inheritance. What happens next…? I’ll let you read about for yourself, but it involves a bit of tragedy, some scandal, stress, mystery and a big dollop of romance!
As always, the book has great flow and pace to it. I adore Elle Field’s writing style – the tale is light-hearted, easy-to-read, sensitive and hugely entertaining.
The characters are hugely appealing. The protagonist, Arielle, is irritating and certainly has a flair for the dramatic, however she can also be strong-minded, kind and loyal. She is also someone who is quick to learn from her mistakes; something I find to be a very appealing trait. The author has certainly taken a chance in creating Arielle’s character, however it is a risk that has definitely paid off. I can’t help but like Arielle and I have enjoyed reading how her character has grown and developed over the series. Despite Arielle being the main character, I do have a soft spot for Etta since reading B-SIDE.
Throughout FOUND we receive little glimpses of previous supporting characters – Obélix, Tabitha, Matt, Giles, Arielle’s parents etc… – which made me feel as though I was catching up with old friends. I particularly liked the Obélix storyline.
As mentioned above, the main setting for FOUND is New York, one of my favourite cities! The author creates a wonderful background to the story, focusing around the quiet, classy neighbourhood where the Gramercy Park Hotel is located. I could vividly picture the rows of stately townhouses bordering the picturesque and private Gramercy Park – a oasis of calm within a city that never sleeps.
FOUND captured my imagination from the very first page and kept me hanging on until the last word. It is an entertaining and fun tale of drama and romance (mostly) set in the Big Apple – what’s not to love about that?! The story is a fast-paced tale of sadness, joy, drama and laughter all skillfully balanced in just the right ratio to create a hugely enjoyable story.
