Review
In starting this review, I must admit that I have only read the first two novellas in The Gingerbread Café Trilogy and I’m very much looking forward to reading the third.
The three novellas follow the story of Lil and Damon. Living in small town Ashford in southern US. Lil runs a café specialising in delicious homebaked goods and gingerbread treats. She is a hardworking sole struggling to build her café into a successful local business. Lil is supported by the scene-stealing CeeCee – probably my favourite character in the books! Lil and Damon meet in the first part of the trilogy, when he sets up a shop/café opposite hers and they initially become competitors leading to a humerous competition to steal customers from each other. As the war continues, sparks begin to fly! The books then tells the story of their burgeoning friendship along with all the ups and downs that entails and hiccups they encounter along the way.
The characters in the trilogy are just gorgeous: sweet, hardworking, hurting Lil; sexy Damon; big-hearted and loud CeeCee; cute Charlie and the mother-in-law from hell, Olivia!
The books are largely set in Lil’s café, a warm and welcoming place at the heart of Ashford’s community. You really get a sense of the strong community ties in the town and the wealth of characters who reside there.
The author also allows some precious time for describing the food being baked and served at The Ginerbread Café, all of which made my mouth water. These are books that should be read along with a cup of tea and a large pack of biscuits/cookies!
Despite the individual books being novellas, and therefore shorter than a full sized novel, upon finishing each book, I felt as though I had read a full novel. The author cleverly packs the books with enough story, characterisation and descriptions to make you wonder how such a complete book could be fitted into so few words! These stories contain unbreakable friendships, gorgeous characters, a bit of drama, laugh-out-loud humour and heartwarming romance.
The Gingerbread Café books are funny, uplifting and truly delicious! A must read for any fans of heartwarming romance and cosy love stories.
On a side note, having met the author, Rebecca Raisin, on her recent visit to the UK, I can personally say what an absolutely lovely person she is, as well as being a fantastic writer, and I am honoured to be given the opportunity to join The Gingerbread Café Trilogy book tour and support Bec with this publication.
Enjoy!!
